We’ve been wanting to share this article with you now that cold season is upon us.  Enjoy and have a healthy season!

Oh, how I love the holiday season! First comes the Halloween pumpkins, and then it’s pumpkin spice lattes and breads and treats, oh my! Fall is all kinds of great, but it doesn’t come without an occasional hiccup or two. There’s always the possibility of a trojan horse marching in with the turkey. I’m referring specifically to colds and the dreaded flu. The worst thing that can possibly happen to you around the holiday feasts is getting some sort of illness that prevents you from actually enjoying all the holiday feasts. It’s cruel. That being said, I try to protect myself as much as possible. (Because I make for a lousy sick person.) I wash my hands, try to get a sufficient amount of rest and eat as many immune-boosting foods as I can muster.

My latest treat is a spin on my mom’s apple cider recipe I shared with y’all last year. I can’t really do much on the medicine front if I do get sick (drugs and pregnancy don’t really mix too well), so I’ve been researching natural cold remedies like a mad woman. I feel a tickle in my throat and I run to my computer. That’s what led me to my current worship of turmeric spice.

Have you ever read about this stuff? It’s this miracle spice that, according to the Journal of the American Chemical Society, contains a wide range of antioxidant, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also loaded with healthy nutrients such as protein, fiber, vitamins C, E and K, zinc and a whole butt-load of other wonderful goodies. Because of all the goodness packed into turmeric, it’s used to help prevent cancer, relieve arthritis, manage diabetes, reduce cholesterol AND act as an immune booster. Now you see why I had to try it in my mom’s apple cider. There’s nothing like a nice warm drink that does double-duty; protecting my fall zen state and my health.
